Here is where, how & when it all started!

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

Here is where it all started!

Breakfast and Dinner, which extend over an hour most of the days, are invariably our precious family time when we discuss many things under the sun. Common topics include Values of Life, Stories, Poetry, Quotes, Cinema, OTT, Music, Covid, Current Affairs, Philosophy, Spirituality, etc. One or two of these will be invariably there in the everyday menu.
But, the major chunk of the time is dedicated to the sharing of our previous day/night briefs by each one of us. Sowbhagya talks about her exciting day-to-day academic engagements and other activities with her mentors and like-minded mates. Shantini shares her experiences in Reiki Healing and Learning. And, I share my challenges in balancing my creative adventures in my self-declared personal mission and official commitments.
Of course, discussions on the taste or tastelessness of that day's food spread are also inevitable. And that ends up either with a soulful appreciation or soft criticism or at times, petty quarrels.
Rewind by about six to eight months. My daughter must have barely got immersed into her PG in Education as specialisation at Azim Premji University, Bangalore (now online, thanks to Covid19). At that time she was almost halfway through the first semester. Being fully aware of my nature of interests, my passion for academics, and my-ever learning attitude, one fine day she told me, “Accha, you should read one of our subjects, Philosophy of Education. You will love it”. I casually said “Sure, but don't you think it would be too tough for me?”. We both forgot about that conversation.
Today she is almost in the middle of her second semester and the same topic cropped up during our breakfast. I was discussing the need for a structure for the curriculum in any kind of education, for which, objectives, syllabus, and outcome are inevitable. Suddenly she looked at me with that “I told you so” kind of expression. I suddenly remembered the earlier conversation.
After breakfast, she promptly brought me the ‘Philosophy of Education – Part 1’ Compendium of Semester One. That is it. Now I am here trying to write a series of notes based on my learning triggered by her on this topic.
I will be posting my notes one by one as I learn with the hashtag #learnings_from_my_child.
Happy learning and writing!
